Update: Whole School Approach – Supporting mental health in local schools

By February 15, 2019No Comments

Hull & East Yorkshire Mind are currently working with National Mind on a Whole School Approach (WSA) pilot designed by young people, parents, the wider school workforce and local Minds.

Our approach aims to help young people, parents and the school workforce to cope more easily with the challenges of everyday life, help them to manage stress, and to build supportive relationships with their peers.

Between now and to the end of summer term, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind are currently supporting 4 East Riding schools to:

  • promote good mental health and wellbeing to everyone as a right
  • support everyone with a mental health problem
  • find causes of poor mental health and find ways to keep everyone well
  • respect diversity and promote equality
  • build external partnerships to support children and young people to achieve their very best

We have now completed the surveys with young people, parents and staff members in each school to assess need, analysed the data, met with action planning groups of pupils, staff and parents at each school and have signed off on action plans ready for delivery of the interventions from now until the end of the summer term. Some of the interventions we will be delivering are: pupil resilience workshops, drop-ins, wellbeing ambassador training for pupils, youth voice workshops, parent CBT workshops on anxiety or conduct, parent engagement toolkit interventions, school workforce training, Youth Mental Health First Aid, stress management sessions and more.
