By June 30, 2020No Comments

We have a new volunteering opportunity available and we are looking for people in the local area to help us to support people who have been bereaved by suicide. We will be supporting individuals with emotional and practical support at this very difficult time in their lives.

Below is some more information on the volunteering opportunity:

The role involves helping people to cope with their grief and move forward in their life, using onward signposting where relevant. You would also be offering coping strategies and provide practical support such as creating memory boxes, funeral planning, attending the inquest and guidance with finances

The skills and experience needed is a personal experience of bereavement by suicide and an understanding of the organisation. You would need to have an understanding of mental health, bereavement, and strategies to support individuals and the ability to build trusting and supportive relationships with the individuals who use our service.

You will gain knowledge of bereavement, theories, recovery-based support, and short-term interventions through relevant training which is provided. You will also gain the satisfaction of being part of a new and essential service supporting those bereaved by suicide. You will also be gaining experience of working in the mental health sector with the potential to become part of our workforce in the future.
