Mental Health First Aid

This suite of courses are all accredited by Mental Health First Aid England and the Instructors delivering them are very experienced and qualified to do so. They undergo strict quality assurance processes to ensure the standard of delivery is very high. All Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England courses can be delivered face to face or online.

Mental Health First Aid- This two day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®), giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix.

 Mental Health First Aid Champion – This one day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aid Champion, giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress

Mental Health First Aid Awareness – This is a half day introduction to mental health awareness and gives delegates:

  • An understanding of the factors that can affect mental health
  • Identify the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
  • Fell more confident to start a conversation about mental health issues
  • Understand how to look after your own mental health

Mental Health First Aid Refresher – This half day course is for those who have already qualified as a Mental health First Aider or Champion and wish to refresh their skills. As with physical first aid it is recommended that they refresh their skills every three years. Delegates will be refreshed in:

  • Mental health and what influences it
  • How to recognise the main signs of mental ill health
  • How to provide initial help
  • How to guide the person towards appropriate professional help
  • How to be mindful of your own wellbeing

Youth Mental Health First Aid – This two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider, giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing ​

Youth Mental Health First Aid  –This one day course is aimed at anyone who works with and supports children and young people to:

  • Recognise the symptoms of mental health issues
  • Provide initial help
  • Guide the young person towards appropriate professional help
  • Be mindful of their own wellbeing
  • Understand how to create a healthier and more productive learning environment

Youth Mental Health First Aid Aware – This half day course helps participants to be mental health aware and to:

  • Define mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Relate to young people’s experiences
  • Recognise some signs of mental health distress
  • Start a supportive conversation about mental ill health
  • Practise self-care
